Atrium Food Court Renovation Project
This falls marks the beginning of a year-long renovation process that will redefine a central building in the heart of North Carolina
State's campus, the Atrium Food Court. In one short year, the
Atrium will be transformed into a modernized food court that better
accommodate our campus with an exciting menu of fresh fast offerings,
new bathrooms and more seating.
University Dining's Chick-fil-A franchise will continue to be the
centerpiece of the Atrium, complemented by several new
"micro-restaurants" in the serving area, including a new Asian/sushi
concept, pasta/pizza concept, custom salad station, and custom wrap
station. In addition, University Dining will debut its new
Wolfpack-to-Go section with fresh-made items to suit those who want to
grab something quick and keep moving when a tight class schedule
dictates.
The North Campus NC State Bookstore, which occupied a space in the back
corner of the Atrium, will move to the front of the food court.
Construction, which began in May, will be completed in phases over the
coming year to ensure continuous service. A temporary enclosed seating
area on the Brickyard will be constructed in late July/early August, and
will remain there through summer 2011. The rest of the project will be
completed as follows:
Fall Semester 2010: An interim food court consisting of Chick-fil-A,
wraps, and subs will open in the current seating area. A temporary
facility in the brickyard will provide seating during the construction.
Construction of the new food venues is complete late December.
Spring Semester 2011: New serving area opens. Interim serving area is
closed and transformed into new seating area. New restrooms are built.
The temporary facility will continue to serve as the seating area.
Summer 2011: Atrium is closed to complete renovations to the kitchen
area and HVAC. Temporary seating area is removed from the Brickyard.
Fall Semester 2011: Finished Atrium opens.
This fall, upperclassmen will notice that Freshens will no longer be
located in the Atrium. It has been relocated to Talley Student Center,
where students will be able to order their customized smoothies and
scoop up their favorite frozen treats.
While Lil' Dino's will not rejoin the line-up at the Atrium, it will
continue to operate in Talley Student Center.
The countdown has officially begun, and University Dining is eager to
track the new developments with pictures and blog posts through our new
Atrium Blog. Students are invited to subscribe to our RSS
